South boat ramp closed at Pactola Reservoir

RAPID CITY - The south boat ramp at Pactola Reservoir has been closed for a second time this year due to rising water.

"Water is being stored in the flood pool to support efforts to reduce water flowing from tributaries into the Missouri River," said Amy Ballard, Recreation Forester, Black Hills National Forest. "The parking lot at the south boat ramp is being covered by water as the reservoir rises into the flood pool," said Ballard. "We closed the south ramp for public safety."

The north boat ramp remains open but Ballard recommends only high clearance vehicles attempt to launch boats there.

The Forest Service warns all users of the reservoir that water hazards exist such as rocks just beneath the surface, and floating logs, branches and other debris pulled off the shoreline by the high water. Please use common sense and caution when launching and using the reservoir.
