DAV Auxiliary meeting held July 12

The DAV and Auxiliary picnic was held at OverTime Steakhouse on July 12 with 14 members enjoying burgers, hot dogs, beans, potato salad and coleslaw. After lunch, the Auxiliary commander called our meeting to order with seven of our members present.

Bertha Beatch gave the blessing and we all said the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes from June 9 were read and approved and the treasurer's report was read and filed for audit.

Several members had attended a funeral that morning of DAV member Edward Miller.

Elaine said that our new membership year starts in July. We are at 120 members with a quota of 132. We were encouraged to sign up new people, including junior members. In June, we had nine food items for the food pantry. Coborn's receipts for May, June and July are due at the next meeting.

Elvina reported that a statue in the Servicemen's Cemetery was damaged by vandals and needs to be repaired. The Memorial Cemetery is also conducting a raffle to raise money to put in a sprinkler system. We will help with selling tickets.

We have playing cards, tapes and other items to be taken to the VA in Hot Springs and also jeans and bed quilts for the Sioux Falls VA.

At the next meeting, we will discuss our up-coming Forget-Me-Not fund drive.

Bertha gave the closing prayer and we adjourned to meet again on Aug. 11 at James Valley Community Center.
