PHOTO: Making a space for an artist

Laurie and Jay Hamar, of Mitchell, fasten siding on Thursday while working on the new artist-in-residence work space being built on the Dakota Discovery Museum complex grounds in Mitchell. Dakota Discovery Museum Executive Director Lori Holmberg said the museum received a grant to cover materials costs; she added the Hamars, Lou Sebert and area artisan blacksmith Clark Martinek have been volunteering their time to construct the building. Martinek will be the first artist-in-residence to occupy the space, which Holmberg said should be finished by mid-June. (Candy DenOuden/Republic)
