FCSAmerica's Working Here Fund gives $201,125 to SD, Iowa, Wyo. communities in 2013 quarter

OMAHA, Neb. -- Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica), a customer-owned financial cooperative, awarded $50,325 in Working Here Fund grants to 31 organizations in the fourth quarter of 2013. The grants provided South Dakota organizations with $6,000 in the final quarter of the year.

The Working Here Fund was established by FCSAmerica in April 2013 and marked its first year in operation with a total of $201,125 in grants awarded to organizations in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming.

Among the South Dakota recipients:

• Agriculture educators adding iPads to the classroom to expose students to the technology used in today's ag workplace.

• Schools building gardens for hands-on experience in ag production.

• Food pantries trying to keep up with a growing need for supplemental food.

• 4-H families and leaders improving facilities for showing livestock.

"The opportunity to provide grants that support local organizations dedicated to improving our rural communities is a worthwhile effort," said Doug Stark, president and CEO of FCSAmerica.

The Working Here Fund is part of FCSAmerica's community involvement program. The fund provides grants of up to $2,000 each to organizations with projects that fall into the areas of ag education, hunger and nutrition, and young and beginning producers.

Working Here Fund grants are determined quarterly. Online applications for the first quarter of 2014 are being accepted through March 31. To learn more about the grant selection criteria and to complete an application, visit
