SD Association of Towns, Townships offering scholarships

The South Dakota Association of Towns and Townships is now offering one $1,000 and one $500 scholarship to senior high school students who abide in South Dakota, are currently attending a South Dakota public, private, parochial high school or a home school program, and lives in a town or township who is a current member of SDATAT.

Graduates of the class of 2013 are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

The students must use the scholarship for a college, university or vocational school which has a physical presence in South Dakota.

Applicants must complete an application form and submit it along with a written essay on the following topic:

"Year after year, more young people leave South Dakota. What does South Dakota need to do in order to encourage the younger generation to remain in the state? Write an essay on your ideas on how to keep future generations in South Dakota."

These forms are available online at, by email at, or by contacting the office at (605) 353-1439. Students also may contact the office to check eligibility of their towns or townships in the association.

The winners will be announced in May. However, the actual scholarship money will be paid to the financial office of the chosen school in the fall of 2014. Seniors graduating in 2013 are eligible. The winners and their families will be guests at the SDATAT annual meeting in December. Deadline for application is April 1.
