Mitchell Main Street & Beyond’s Wingapalooza back for third year

Crazy for chicken?

This year brings the third annual Wingapalooza, billed as the premier chicken wing event in the region. Competitors vie for the best wings through creating the tastiest — and often spiciest — recipe.

This year’s event is from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Masonic Temple in Mitchell.

Proceeds from Wingapalooza will go toward revitalizing downtown Mitchell and generating more community events, according to Mitchell Main Street & Beyond.

Registration is $100 for two worker passes and no wings, or $250 for two worker passes and 300 wings. Those who register for the first option are responsible for bringing in their own wings for the contest. Registration forms can be found online at or on the Wingapalooza Facebook page.

Businesses can sponsor a team, or a group of friends can sign up to take on the competition.

In addition to eating a variety of wings, there is an all-you-can-eat wing contest in which the winner will take home a $50 cash prize. This year will bring with it a new event, too — a hot wing eating contest. Participants will be required to eat eight of the hottest wings in a specific period of time. Registration for the contest will open via the Wingapalooza Facebook page Jan. 6.

Teams are encouraged to create a theme for their booth. Prizes will be awarded to best original booth decorating, hottest wings and people’s choice for best wings.

Tickets to attend Wingapalooza will go on sale Wednesday. They will be available on the Wingapalooza website,, or at the MMS&B office, 400 N. Main St., Ste. 202. Tickets cost $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Party packages will be available.
