Magician/illusionist to perform at Palace
Magician. Illusionist. Entertainer.
That's how Brookings native Reza describes himself and his show, both of which will hit the Corn Palace stage this weekend.
Reza will perform at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Corn Palace. Tickets are $20 apiece, or buy one get one free, all general admission. They are available at the Corn Palace box office at 995-8430 or www.cornpalace.com.
Corn Palace Director Mark Schilling said about 400 tickets had been sold by Wednesday afternoon, and while he admitted the show won't sell out, he's hoping to sell a couple hundred more tickets.
"We would love to see this thing get into 600 or even more," he said.
The plan is to put about 500 chairs on the main floor, he said, to get people as close to the stage as possible.
"We're going to make sure everyone is comfortable down on the main floor," he said.
Capacity could accommodate more than 1,000 ticket sales if it needed, he said.
Promotional materials show Reza, who has been performing live since he was 15, performing a variety of revamped magical mainstays, such as the classic saw-a-woman-in-half trick as well as his brand of disappearing acts. Schilling said the show should last about an hour and a half.
Schilling said they're hoping for strong walk-up sales Sunday, noting that the warmer temperatures -- the National Weather Service predicts temperatures could be in the 40s -- should encourage families to attend the show together.
"This is very, very family friendly," Schilling said. "Kids are going to have a good time, they're going to be amazed, they're going to look at mom and dad and ask, 'how did they do that?' and mom and dad will have to say, 'I don't know.' "
