South Dakota producers have worked together to make agriculture the number one industry in the state, an accomplishment that all South Dakotans can take pride in. By individuals working together to find new advances and helping each other out, agriculture will continue to grow into an even larger industry.
PARKER — Walt Bones is one of the biggest dairy farmers in South Dakota. And he’s never milked a cow in his life. Bones, in partnership with some relatives and neighbors, owns about 4,000 head of dairy cattle. Half of them are milked at two large dairy operations near Parker. They produce millions of gallons of milk every year.
The governor has announced the Black Hills Forest Initiative, a new initiative designed to prevent the mountain pine beetle from destroying the forest and its communities by increasing awareness of the problem; engaging homeowners and businesses; coordinating with state, county and federal partners; and increasing those resources used to deal with the problem.
