New water meters being installed in Mitchell will more accurately measure the amount of water that residents use.
That’s good news for the city, according to Public Works Department Deputy Director Terry Johnson. It will bring in more revenue and will allow the city to either drop a position or reassign one or two employees.
Another day, another downpour.
More than 3 inches of rain fell in Mitchell Thursday night and Friday morning, shattering the local record of rain in July, according to Shawn Liebl, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Sioux Falls. The new record is 10.22 inches, topping the old mark of 9.81 inches set in 1993.
Cuts to the public works budget in the city of Sioux Falls could benefit Mitchell and other cities, according to a Mitchell official.
Earlier this week, Mitchell awarded a bid for the replacement of about 12,000 total square feet of hazardous sidewalk sections at various locations in the city. There were six bidders, including two from the Sioux Falls area.
