Mitchell city officials sent text and e-mail alerts Thursday morning to warn residents about the minimum $75 fine for not clearing their sidewalks of snow.
At the same time, the city was under a wind-chill warning and the National Weather Service was advising that the conditions outside would “result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken.”
Several new projects are being planned in Mitchell to increase accessibility for the handicapped.
The Mitchell Advisory Council for People with Disabilities and the city are working together to add new stretches of sidewalks to the picnic shelter at Doty Park, to the playground area at Patton-Young Park, to a field at Cadwell Park and to some areas at the new Pepsi Soccer Complex. A second handicap accessible fishing pier also is proposed.
