Murtha pitches well, Rock Bass fall 4-1 to Milbank
The Parkston Rock Bass had a short-lived state tournament, the first time the team qualified since 2009.
Tommy Murtha, a hard-throwing lefthander, gave up nine hits, three walks and two earned runs in the 4-1 loss to Milbank. He recorded eight strikeouts and pitched well enough to win, but the Rock Bass defense — and offense — wasn’t able to give him much support.

Midnight rainstorm delays thriller between Parkston Rock Bass, Flandreau
It looked as though the Parkston Rock Bass would be able to take care of Flandreau and come away with a win before the storm hit Wednesday night at Cadwell Park.
But in the bottom of the ninth inning with the wind blowing straight out into center field, Flandreau recorded four hits and took advantage of a key throwing error on shortstop Nate Harrington to get within two, 9-7, with the tying run on second and no outs before a rain delay was called at the Class B state amateur tournament at Cadwell Park.
