RAPID CITY — Jim Thompson has been promoting genuine cowboy poetry and cowboy music for more than 15 years. That made the South Dakota radio legend the perfect host for The Black Hills Stock Show’s Cowboy Gathering Friday.
Barbara Duffey, assistant professor of English at DWU, joined the English department this fall and had several poems published over the summer and fall, in which she uses mechanical metaphors to portray a personal connection between man and machine.
Badger Clark is recognized as South Dakota’s most successful cowboy poet, but there’s a modern generation taking pen to paper on ranches across South Dakota. They are featured in the September/October 2012 issue of South Dakota Magazine.
Gale Patzlaff doesn’t read his poetry, nor does he recite it.
Instead, Patzlaff leans into a rhyme, offering up a humorous tale with a wry expression on his face and a touch of whimsy evident in his eyes.
