A tax increment financing (TIF) district to assist in the development of a proposed Pepsi warehouse could be created this summer.
Pepsi-Cola of Mitchell plans to build a 52,000-square-foot distribution center near Ohlman Street in west Mitchell. Bryan Hisel, executive director of the Mitchell Area Development Corporation, said public hearings will be held this month and in July before moving ahead on creating the TIF.
The Mitchell School District is hoping that an exclusive 10-year beverage contract will pay for visitors’ bleachers for the new stadium at Joe Quintal Field.
The $164,000 bleacher option previously was snipped from the stadium project to reduce costs.
“The whole purpose of the contract is to seek new revenues,” said Superintendent of Schools Joe Graves in a recent phone interview.
