Mitchell Superintendent Joe Graves said Monday that an idea to reorganize Mitchell’s elementary schools as grade-level rather than neighborhood schools might never make it off the drawing board, but it’s still worth exploring.
Graves explains the idea in a column on Page 4 of today’s edition and spoke to The Daily Republic about the idea by phone Monday.
Things have changed a bit when it comes to the physical education courses at Mitchell elementary schools.
Gone are the days of limited curriculum.
And the Mitchell School District — elementary physical education instructors Deb Thill and Gary Powers in particular — would have it no other way.
If a Mitchell School District student accidentally forgets an unloaded shotgun in a vehicle that’s parked on campus, the student likely will be expelled from school for a year, Superintendent Joe Graves said Tuesday.
That scenario happened recently in Sioux Falls and last month, the Sioux Falls school board announced the one-year expulsion of the Washington High School student.
