I was a rookie that went three for three. I ran for GOP chairman of Sanborn County and won. Sanborn had about 20 percent of the population of Davison County, but I was only 26 years of age.
In the fall of 1975, the chairmen of Sanborn, Miner, McCook and Hanson counties met in Howard. We tried to find a “sacrificial lamb” to run for the Legislature, as the Democrats had held the three seats for four, six and eight years.

The economic crisis from which our nation is recovering has touched every part of America, and rural residents were not immune. Yet, many indicators suggest that rural communities fared better than their more urban cousins. In no small part, this has been due to the growth in renewable fuel production and the corresponding innovation on American farms.

In regard to the 40th anniversary of Woodstock: The news magazine Newsweek described them as a “youthful, long-haired army, almost as large as the U.S. force in Vietnam.”
The news magazine wrote of “wounded hippies” sent to impromptu hospital tents. Some 400,000 of the nation’s affluent young “attended the electric pot dream.” Time gushed with admiration for the gathering.
