PIERRE — An expansion of South Dakota’s Medicaid program to provide health insurance to thousands of additional low-income people would reduce the number of people unable to pay their bills for medical care, hospital executives said Tuesday.
PIERRE (AP) — The South Dakota Legislature's budget-writing committee rejected a plan to expand the Medicaid program Friday after a state official said Gov. Dennis Daugaard is setting up a group to study whether the state should cover thousands of additional low-income people in the program.
The House and Senate committees on Health and Human Services held a joint meeting Wednesday to consider the advantages and drawbacks of expanding the program as part of the federal health care overhaul. Lawmakers will not make a decision until later.
