A 15-year revitalization effort in Howard culminated in the 2011 dedication of the $6.5 million Maroney Commons. Now the building is vacant, dashing the hopes of some for whom the project was a symbol of rural rebirth.
Koch Hazard Architects received a 2011 Merit Award from the American Institute of Architects for its design of the Maroney Commons, which opened in August 2011 as an expansion of the Rural Learning Center.
