Sometimes, coaches from South Dakota schools will mention that it’s hard to recruit because of the location of their schools.
This especially holds true for coaches of outdoor sports — golf, track, football and baseball. With winters that are long and predictable and can start anywhere from September to December and run until well into May, convincing recruits they should come play in that climate can be tough.
It was shocking, really, how calm and pleasant Brad Pole was after the Dakota Wesleyan University football team’s first game of the year Saturday afternoon.
He was even able to crack a joke or two about the Tigers’ defense — or lack thereof — over the course of the game.
