Company provides information technology, consulting, financial and strategic planning support and services to communications service providers; had 154 employees at its Mitchell location and another 77 at an office in Sioux Falls.
The Mitchell plant manager for Graphic Packaging said between 22 and 24 people will be laid off by the end of the year.
“There will be some headcount reduction, based on how we manage our business,” said Jim Dice.
Dice said operations are being analyzed across the entire company and work is being realigned from plant to plant.
The Dakota Discovery Museum in Mitchell soon will have museum director Lori Holmberg as its only full-time employee.
In response to plunging contributions, the museum board of directors has decided to lay off two full-time employees and close the museum from Oct. 1 to April 30. The museum will reopen May 1.
Layoffs continued to pile up Monday in Mitchell as Trail King announced it was laying off 75 workers — the biggest round of layoffs announced in Mitchell since the current economic crisis began.
Trail King laid off 42 employees in December and had hoped to avoid further layoffs by instituting two- to three-week furloughs for groups of employees, according to company President Carol Lowe, but orders have remained low. Trail King manufactures heavy-haul trailers.
