New stadium looks like a winner
The best was saved for last.
The Mitchell Board of Education quickly dispatched a light agenda Monday and got on with the real business of the meeting — a long-anticipated tour of the new stadium at Joe Quintal Field.
Activities Director Geoff Gross paired with Doug McCune, project superintendent for the Puetz Corporation, to give about a half-hour tour of the spacious facility.

Quintal ‘80 percent done’
The new, improved Joe Quintal Stadium is about 80 percent done, project construction manger Mark Puetz said earlier this week.
And that makes Mitchell Superintendent Joe Graves and Activities Director Geoff Gross rather happy.
The $2.9 million stadium that started in April is scheduled to be finished Sept. 2, which is one day before the Mitchell football team’s first home game of the season against Brookings.

School seeks beverage deal
The Mitchell School District is hoping that an exclusive 10-year beverage contract will pay for visitors’ bleachers for the new stadium at Joe Quintal Field. The $164,000 bleacher option previously was snipped from the stadium project to reduce costs.
“The whole purpose of the contract is to seek new revenues,” said Superintendent of Schools Joe Graves in a recent phone interview.

I have to tell you, I sometimes do a double-take when I see the name Joe Quintal in a Daily Republic headline.
I have seen the name quite a bit in headlines over the past year or so as the community discussed improving the old facility. I know a bit about the current events issue, but when I see the name in the paper, the first thing I think of is, well, Joe Quintal.

Walls to come down at Quintal Field stadium

Board OKs stadium replacement
The Mitchell school board gave its unanimous approval Monday to a plan to replace the aging stadium at Joe Quintal Field.If bond financing goes according to plan, the 1,700-seat football stadium will be ready next September, said Mitchell Superintendent Joe Graves.

In places, the foundation is crumbling and it leaks when it rains.
Players don’t even use the locker rooms on game day, and instead dress and shower across the street at Mitchell High School.
