PIERRE — Nearly half of the inmates released from state prisons in South Dakota from 2003 through 2008 found their way back behind bars again within three years, according to a report that has been delivered to Gov. Dennis Daugaard.
PIERRE — South Dakota’s prison population hit record highs in recent months, state officials said Thursday as they described stepped-up efforts to reduce the number of people sentenced to prison and to cut the number of parolees who end up back behind bars.
PIERRE — South Dakota should be able to reach a goal of cutting in half the number of released prison inmates who get in trouble and are sent back to prison, the state’s top corrections official said Monday.
