PIERRE - The South Dakota Highway Patrol is currently accepting applications from those wishing to become state troopers.
There are vacancies in Aberdeen, Belle Fourche, Burke, Parker, Pierre, Pierre Capital Protective Services, Presho, Rapid City, Salem, Sioux Falls, Watertown and Wessington Springs.
It ended like most workdays for Dale Trautmann.
Getting off work from Twin City Fan at 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 28, he started the 35-mile journey along state Highway 37 back to his house in Woonsocket.
The routine was broken just eight miles north of Mitchell, when he saw what he believed to be emergency flashing lights in a field ahead of him. As he drove closer, he realized a car had gone off the road and was on fire.
Area emergency workers responded to a number of accidents throughout the region Friday morning as blowing snow and icy roads caused drivers to lose control of their vehicles.
One driver near the Miner and McCook county line on U.S. Highway 81 lost control of a car and was hit by a semitruck, totaling the back end of the car, according to the Miner County Sheriff’s Office. No injuries or citations were reported.
