Mayor ponders future with manager
Lou Sebert has been elected mayor of Mitchell twice, and the job might be on the ballot again as soon as June 2011. Sebert said if that’s the case, he may be willing to run, and serve, again. If voters decide Nov. 2 to change to a city manager form of government, state law calls for another election to fill all the council seats and the mayor’s position within 12 months.By Tom Lawrence , July 10, 2010

Focus 2020 ideas on agenda
A discussion of Focus 2020 recommendations regarding the creation of a city-manager position and the construction of a community center are on the agenda for this evening’s Mitchell City Council meeting at City Hall.Focus 2020 is a volunteer, long-range local planning group that issued recommendations last year for the Mitchell area’s future. Among those recommendations was the construction of a community center which, at various points in the idea stage, has included an arena, wellness center and indoor pool.

Proposed City Council change sparks debate
Some of Mitchell’s most experienced politicians clashed this week over a proposed change to the structure of the City Council.Dusty Johnson, chairman of the state Public Utilities Commission, and Mike Vehle, a state senator, presented ideas Monday evening to the City Council from the Focus 2020 Governmental Structures Subcommittee. Focus 2020 is a volunteer group formed last year to issue wide-ranging recommendations for the future of the Mitchell area.

In Other Words: Vision 2000 gets too much credit; a warning about 2020
I laughed even before I read the article. I picked up the Saturday, July 25, edition of The Daily Republic. It was right there on the front page, a big picture of the Mitchell Aquatic Center and a picture of Jim Beddow next to it. Latest Focus 2020 report suggests making region a business destination
Hiring a consultant to brand and market the Mitchell region is one of many strategies recommended Wednesday by the Regional Economic Development Subcommittee of Focus 2020.Focus 2020 is a local, long-range planning group that was formed in September. Wednesday’s report was the last of eight to be issued from the Focus 2020 subcommittees. The next step is a review of the reports by Focus 2020’s Coordination Assistance Team.

Focus 2020 subcommittee envisions ‘gateway’ area at Lake Mitchell
A report issued Friday by a local committee envisions Lake Mitchell as a recreation jewel surrounded by well-signed trails and access areas, and anchored by a “gateway” area near the lake’s southeastern point.Focus 2020’s Lake Mitchell Development Subcommittee issued its report of draft recommendations Friday. The report is the sixth of eight being issued this month by Focus 2020, a volunteer, long-range planning initiative that was announced in September. Each report must be reviewed by Focus 2020’s Coordination Assistance Team before it is finalized.
