PIERRE (AP) — Banners created to honor South Dakota military personnel who lost their lives in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom will be on display starting Monday at the South Dakota National Guard Museum in Pierre.
As a veteran of deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Steven Nelson knows firsthand the costs of war.
Nelson, 50, of Mitchell, spoke to a group of 25 people Monday at Mitchell’s Carnegie Resource Center to honor the soldiers whose photos will be on display through May 14 as part of the South Dakota “Fallen Heroes” banner display.
