The Mitchell Rotary Club will host two election forums in the upcoming weeks. The first will feature a debate regarding Referred Law 14 at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ramada. David Owen, South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, and Ben Nesselhuf, South Dakota Democratic Party chairman, will debate Referred Law 14, an Act to establish the Large Project Development Fund.
The first of two public forums on local races and ballot issues is scheduled for this evening.
The Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee is sponsoring the forums. The second forum is next Tuesday, Oct. 26.
Both forums will be held at the Mitchell Technical Institute Technology Center Amphitheater, 1800 E. Spruce. They will start at 7 p.m.
Debates will define 2010 South Dakota elections
The two highest-profile races in South Dakota this year will be defined by the joint appearances and debates by the candidates.
The State Fair is often the symbolic beginning of the intense part of campaigns in South Dakota, but the races for governor and the U.S. House of Representatives are making headlines every day in August.
