The bonds will pay for $6.5 million in improvements and renovations to the Corn Palace, $2.6 million for a new city hall, $2.5 million for a second ice rink at the Mitchell Activities Center and $2.3 million for upgrades to the Mitchell Public Library.
If plans proceed according to the wishes of Mayor Ken Tracy, a new city hall will be built near the corner of First and Main in downtown Mitchell. We like the idea, as we appreciate the mayor’s vision for what he sees as an urban renewal project.
Members of the Mitchell Board of Education will discuss a proposal to move Mitchell City Hall to the Mitchell Technical Institute North campus building on Capital Street when they meet in regular session at 5 p.m. today in MTI’s Campus Center building, on East Spruce St., Mitchell.
