DWU’s Burback named GPAC golfer of the week By The Daily Republic Chelsea Burback has been named the Great Plains Athletic Conference golfer of the the week, it was announced Thursday. The Northglenn, Colo., native posted a pair of back-to-back low rounds in the third and fourth conference qualifiers to help the Dakota Wesleyan University women’s golf team win its fifth GPAC championship last week. In the third qualifier Burback shot an 85. She improved her score by five strokes in the fourth qualifier by shooting an 80, which tied her for first place with DWU teammate Lauren Fitts in that qualifier.By Sports staff , May 03, 2013

Wolters tabbed as All-American By The Daily Republic South Dakota State University guard Nate Wolters was named a third-team All-American by The Associated Press Monday. Wolters was 1 of 15 players to garner All-American honors. The guard averaged 22.3 points per game and 5.8 assists this season. Area athletes win Knights of Columbus state free-throw contest By The Daily Republic CHAMBERLAIN — Three area youth athletes won state titles at the South Dakota Knights of Columbus state free throw contest earlier this month. The event was held March 3 at the St. Joseph’s Indian School gymnasium. USD women’s basketball team makes WBI semifinals VERMILLION (AP) — The University of South Dakota women’s basketball team has moved into the semifinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitational. The Coyotes beat Lamar 71-48 in the quarterfinals on Sunday. USD will host a semifinal matchup with McNeese State on Thursday night.
