Post 22 knocks off Mitchell en route to Legion title
RAPID CITY — Rapid City Post 22’s Kolton Emery struck out every one of Mitchell’s starters at least once, helping his team end Mitchell’s season on its way to Post 22’s 36th state Legion championship.
Mitchell fell to Post 22 Sunday at the Class A state Legion tournament 12-2 in seven innings in a qualifying game for the right to play Rapid City Post 320. Post 22 then defeated Post 320 6-2.

Post 18 stays alive with win over Brookings
RAPID CITY — Jordan Piper gave up two long home runs, 14 hits and seven runs, but pitched all nine innings while Mitchell’s offense put up enough runs to give him the complete-game win.
Post 18 defeated Brookings 11-7 in an elimination game Friday at the Class A state Legion baseball tournament at Fitzgerald Stadium in Rapid City.
“It was judgment day part one today, so we were ready to go,” Mitchell third baseman Alex Loes said.

Post 22 continues to handle Mitchell
RAPID CITY — One day after 10-run ruling its first opponent of the Class A state Legion tournament, Mitchell had the same pain inflicted on it.
Post 18 – which had five errors in the game — was handed its first loss in the double-elimination tournament from Rapid City Post 22 Thursday night at Fitzgerald Stadium 14-2. The loss was Mitchell’s fifth loss to Post 22 this season.

RAPID CITY — In the first game of the Class A Legion state tournament Wednesday in Rapid City, Mitchell proved hitting can definitely be contagious.
Post 18 batted 16 men in an 11-run third inning en route to a 16-2, seven-inning game-shortened win over Class B champion Vermillion.

Bats keep Mitchell alive in Region playoffs
YANKTON — Mitchell scored 39 total runs in two wins Wednesday, keeping the team alive in the Region 2A Legion baseball playoffs.
Post 18 tallied nearly one-third of the day’s runs in the third inning against Brandon Valley when it scored 11 runs en route to a 19-3 five-inning blowout win over the same team that knocked it from the winners’ bracket.

Alexandria cruises past Garretson in State B tourney
PLATTE — If Wednesday’s first game at the Class B state Legion tournament in Platte was a marathon, the second game of the day was a sprint.
After a three hour and 45 minute tournament opener, Alexandria took advantage of solid pitching and two big innings to beat Garretson 10-0 in five innings by virtue of the 10-run rule.

When all was said and done, it all added up to an 18-17 win over Chamberlain for Groton to start the Class B Legion state tournament Wednesday morning at American Legion Memorial Park in Platte.

Big sixth inning leads Mitchell over Yankton
Mitchell Post 18 sent 17 hitters to the plate in a 10-run sixth inning Wednesday, racing past Yankton for a 13-1, seven-inning win in a scheduled nine-inning game.
With a 3-0 lead after five innings, ending the game early because of the 10-run rule didn’t seem like it would come into play. But the line drive outs Mitchell had been making earlier finally started to drop, and Mitchell broke things open in a hurry.
