The first thing Howard High School football coach Pat Ruml did when it was decided that the Tigers would make the switch from 11-man to 9-man football in 2009 was put together the toughest schedule he could manage.
That tough schedule seems to have paid off, as Howard made the transition from 11- to 9-man football look easy and seamless. The Tigers finished the season 11-1, won the 9AA state title and, most recently, landed four athletes on the 9AA all-state team, which is picked by the South Dakota Football Coaches Association.
