40th Corn Palace Stampede provided fun for community
Spirits and temperatures were high for Saturday’s Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo parade. This year’s theme was “Celebrating 40 Years of Cowboys, Kids and Country.”Rodeo committee chairman Jim Mikimins estimated a parade attendance of nearly 10,000 at the yearly event.
“It was wonderful,” he said. In addition to fun, the event provided a solid economic boost. Families come to town to enjoy the parade and rodeo and that benefits all Mitchell business, he said.

Corn Palace rodeo wraps up
After a busy four days of competition, the 40th annual Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo came to a close Sunday night at Horseman’s Sports Arena.
And rodeo chairman Jim Miskimins said this year was one of the best Mitchell has seen.
“We really had a great weekend,” Miskimins said following Sunday’s final event. “(Saturday) we had a couple problems with the storm that blew in, but the evening turned out to be lovely. Lots of people made their way out here and the crowd was lively and energetic. It was really a pretty great rodeo.”

Bulls get the best of cowboys Friday
Abe Dillman and Cody Kleeman sat about 10 feet from each other, nursing bull-riding injuries after the conclusion of Friday night’s Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo.
Kleeman, a Killdeer, N.D., native, was resting with his foot in a bucket of ice water, while Dillman — from Grassy Butte, N.D. — was trying to stop the river of blood streaming down his left arm.

Kennebec’s Jandreau ties for first
Later this week, Dawson Jandreau will make the trek to Gillette, Wyo., to defend his national saddle bronc title at the National High School Finals Rodeo.
Jandreau, who recently graduated from Lyman High School and resides in Kennebec, won his first national title at the 2009 NHSFR.
