MHS students prepare to compete at event with scenes from ‘Love Letters’
Senior Matt Bartl, 17, and sophomore Maddi Miller, 15, recently became the first students at Mitchell to qualify in their category for the National Speech and Debate Tournament June 11-19 in Kansas City, Mo. They will perform scenes from a Broadway play script entitled, “Love Letters,” by A.R. Gurney.

For a team that, in the first 12 days of the season, has already made a West River trip, has played back-to-back days twice, has played without two different starters and has played two ranked teams on the road, you’d have to be pretty picky to find much fault with the 4-1 start the Mitchell boys’ basketball team has enjoyed this season. Mitchell teams head to Huron for unique doubleheader
Two different fan bases can get a taste of a different sport when Huron hosts Mitchell in a wrestling and boys’ basketball doubleheader at today at Huron Arena. The event will start at 5:30 p.m. when the Tigers and Kernels hit the wrestling mat for an ESD dual. Kernels take 6th at Rapid City Invitational
RAPID CITY — The Mitchell High School wrestling team finished in sixth place out of 32 teams from three states Saturday at the Rapid City Invitational. Mitchell, which had five wrestlers place in the top four of their weight class and was led by Brent Havlik’s title at 160 pounds, finished with 148 team points. Rapid City Stevens won the title with 233.5 points.December 14, 2009

Kernels to host Team Pink event Saturday
Saturday, the Mitchell High School volleyball team will be hosting the No. 1-ranked team in the state, but the focus will be elsewhere. Mitchell will host its annual Team Pink event at the Mitchell High School gymnasium Saturday during its 2:30 p.m. match with a one-loss Aberdeen team. The event will be the second consecutive year the Mitchell volleyball team will focus a match on fighting breast cancer and the awareness of the disease.By Luke Hagen , October 22, 2009
