The Dakota Athletic Conference has selected Dakota State University’s Jared Donahue as the pitcher of the week for the second time this season.
Donahue, a Winner native, pitched a complete game shutout in a 2-0 win over Jamestown on Sunday. He allowed six hits and struck out seven batters in his only outing of the week.
Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball coach John Hemenway has been awarded the college men’s coach of the year in the state by the South Dakota High School Coaches Association, it was announced Wednesday.
Hemenway, who just finished his fifth season on the bench for the Tigers, led DWU to a 28-6 record and a spot in the NAIA national tournament’s Sweet 16 round.
“It’s a nice honor, but it’s all about my players,” said Hemenway, a 1996 graduate of the University of South Dakota. “I can’t take the credit for it because those are the guys out there making me look good. When you have great players and great teams, it makes things like this possible.”
Bill Marquardt has been around the coaching ranks for quite some time.
Marquardt made his mark at the Class B level as the head man at Hanson, where he won a state title in 1986. But now in his second season at the helm of the McCook Central/Montrose co-op, Marquardt is looking make a splash at the Class A state tournament this weekend.
