One of the suspects in the murder of a Mitchell teenager made his first court appearance late Friday afternoon.
Alexander Salgado, 20, of Fort Wayne, Ind., who recently relocated to Mitchell, is accused of charges including first-degree murder in the Tuesday death of Jasmine Guevara, 16. Also charged is a 15-year-old girl, whom authorities have identified only by the initials M.D.
A burned car retrieved from rural Mitchell and the body found within it have been transported to the State Crime Lab in Pierre, the Hanson County Sheriff’s Office reported this afternoon in a news release.
Authorities said Wednesday that the disappearance of a Mitchell teenager is believed to be related to what an eyewitness described as a fatal fire.
The Hanson County sheriff announced Wednesday afternoon that he is investigating a “suspicious” range fire that consumed a car Tuesday night about three miles southeast of Mitchell, and the state attorney general separately announced Wednesday afternoon the disappearance of 16-year-old Jasmine Guevara. Later Wednesday evening, the attorney general’s office issued a third announcement stating that the two cases are believed to be related.
