Tired, proud and flush with victory, the 70-member Friend de Coup show choir and band drew the applause of classmates, teachers and parents at Mitchell High School Monday evening.
The brief welcome-home celebration capped a remarkable season that culminated with last weekend’s win of the FAME National Show Choir contest in Orlando, Fla.
Friend de Coup director Chris Miller said it best.
“When you (compete) to the best of your abilities,” he said Sunday, “you end up reaping the awards.”
And that’s exactly what the Mitchell High School show choir, Friend de Coup, did Saturday, when the 70-member group won the Grand Champion title at the FAME National Show Choir contest at Hard Rock Live in Orlando, Fla.
The Mitchell High School show choir has reached the culmination of its 2010 season.
The group, known as Friend de Coup, left early today to compete in the FAME National Show Choir Competition in Orlando, Fla. The 70-member group will perform Saturday at an all-day contest at Hard Rock Live.
Mitchell High School’s show choir bested Omaha-area schools to win grand champion at Clash of the Titans show choir competition Saturday in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
In addition to grand champion, the Friend de Coup show choir also won best choreography and best band awards at the contest at Lewis Central High School.
The Mitchell High School Friend de Coup show choir is wrapping up the final month of competition in style.
The group won the “People’s Choice” award and placed third overall at Saturday’s “Swinging on the River” show choir competition in Hastings, Minn. At that show, Friend de Coup competed against 19 other show choirs from the Midwest, said director Chris Miller.
