The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team signed junior transfer Danny Maman, it was announced Thursday.
Maman, a 6-foot-4 guard, comes to DWU after two seasons at Glendale Community College in Glendale, Ariz.

Alex Kocer says he’s an elite wrestler.
“I’m not trying to be cocky,” Kocer said, “but I think I could be up there with the best. I feel confident with myself and my wrestling abilities.”
At the end of February, the senior from Wagner capped his final high school wrestling season with a 152-pound title, his fifth straight Class B state championship.

Hart, Voss important parts of Wesleyan basketball
Amanda Hart and Jalen Voss will be honored by the Great Plains Athletic Conference today.
No official announcement has been made by league officials, but Hart will be named to the all-GPAC second team. Voss is being named honorable mention and will earn co-freshman of the year honors. Their coaches confirmed the honors Tuesday night, and it will be officially announced today by the GPAC.

Havlik joins elite group with win
ABERDEEN — On Saturday, Mitchell’s Brent Havlik became only the second wrestler in school history to win three individual state championships.
Havlik defeated Dell Rapids’ junior Jackson Entringer in the 170-pound championship to join Doyle Everson on the list of three-time state champs for the Kernels.

Kernels take 5th place in team race
ABERDEEN — Head coach Travis Carpenter set a goal for the Mitchell Kernel wrestlers to finish in the top five at the Class A state tournament in Aberdeen over the weekend.
The Kernel wrestlers did that, finishing fifth in team points with 110.0 points.
“I can’t complain about how we wrestled,” Carpenter said. “The kids wrestled hard, and they saved their best for the last.”

RAPID CITY — By the time the final round arrived, the biggest concern for Wagner High School fans was Alex Kocer.
For the second straight year, the Red Raiders knew there was no shot at the team title on the second day of the Class B state wrestling tournament Saturday in Rapid City. Canton started gaining momentum in the wrestlebacks, and Wagner didn’t have the firepower in the championship round to catch up.
