Last season at this time, the women’s basketball team at Dakota Wesleyan was all but done, but today’s 2 p.m. tipoff has playoff implications.
The Tigers, who are 13-10 overall and 4-9 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, sit in eight place in the standings and host seventh-place Doane (10-9 overall, 6-8 GPAC) today at the Corn Palace.

Bane back at Dakota Wesleyan but not officially part of team 
Jon Bane is enrolled in classes at Dakota Wesleyan University, head football coach Ross Cimpl confirmed Wednesday evening.
Bane is the former DWU starting quarterback who told Cimpl he was quitting the Tigers’ football team at the end of the fall semester. Bane was interested in playing for higher levels of collegiate football such as NCAA Division II.

Dakota Wesleyan eyes athletes’ legal charges 
After a string of legal trouble for Dakota Wesleyan University student-athletes during the last calendar year, Athletic Director Curt Hart is looking into changes in athletic policies and guidelines at the school.
In 2011, the athletic department had at least 14 athletes charged with crimes related to drugs, alcohol or alleged burglaries. Hart said each situation is dealt with on a case-by-case basis, and the university is looking into ways to minimize criminal activity.
