Xavier beats South Dakota State 72-56 
CINCINNATI (AP) — Ta’Shia Phillips was way too much for an overmatched team.
The 6-foot-6 center had 27 points and 15 rebounds Sunday, and second-seeded Xavier got off to a slow start on its home court before using its front-line advantage to pull away from South Dakota State 72-56 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

VERMILLION (AP) — Jake Thomas had the best game of his career, pulling down eight rebounds, making 10 3-pointers and finishing with 40 points as the University of South Dakota walloped Chicago State 105-73 on Saturday night.
Thomas set the single-game record for 3-pointers for the Coyotes (15-13, 6-4 Great West), breaking his previous record of nine in 2009-10.
Thomas also topped his previous career bests in points and rebounds and tied his career highs of 11 field goals and four steals.
