Storms uproot trees, damage buildings in area

A Letcher farmer lost five grain bins and Letcher residents lost power Monday night when strong storms blew through the area, bringing along heavy rain and high winds.
That damage occurred on Jim Edwards’ farm southwest of Letcher, said Ernie Anderson, Sanborn County chief deputy and emergency management director.
“The big grain bins were rolled up like a pop can,” he said.

Chester rolls past White Lake/Plankinton

PLANKINTON — Drew Kreutzfeldt threw a pair of first-half touchdowns to lead Chester Area to a 42-8 win over White Lake/Plankinton on Saturday in both team’s season-openers. Dylan Kreutzfeldt added three touchdown runs in the second half for Chester, which will face Mount Vernon this week.

Corn Palace rodeo wraps up After a busy four days of competition, the 40th annual Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo came to a close Sunday night at Horseman’s Sports Arena. And rodeo chairman Jim Miskimins said this year was one of the best Mitchell has seen. “We really had a great weekend,” Miskimins said following Sunday’s final event. “(Saturday) we had a couple problems with the storm that blew in, but the evening turned out to be lovely. Lots of people made their way out here and the crowd was lively and energetic. It was really a pretty great rodeo.”
