This time around, the Flyers (19-4) gave themselves some breathing room long before the final seconds of the game and a buzzer-beater wasn’t necessary.

Less than three weeks ago, the Tripp-Delmont/Armour boys’ basketball team got its shot at undefeated and top-ranked Corsica/Stickney.
That night, Feb. 16, the Jaguars kept rolling along with a 42-36 win. But Nighthawks coach Burnell Glanzer saw something late in that contest that gave him an optimistic outlook in the event the two teams met again.
“We played with them the whole game,” Glanzer said. “In fact, I thought we had them for the most of it, but we just wore down and we didn’t get enough rest for our key guys.”

The Comets managed only two fourth-quarter field goals, but were 13-of-18 from the free-throw line to seal the win.

WAGNER — The Wagner wrestling team will send nine to the Class B state wrestling meet Friday in Sioux Falls.
The Red Raiders won the Region 3B wrestling meet Saturday in its home gymnasium, racking up 165 points.
Kimball/White Lake took second with 116 points, Burke/Gregory finished third with 109, Bon Homme came in fourth with 107.5 and Lyman finished in fifth with 89 points.

FREEMAN — Parkston held off Freeman 17-13 in the final quarter to net a 56-52 win in a high school girls’ basketball game Friday in Freeman.
Marie Malloy led Parkston with 19 points and five steals. Emma Murtha grabbed nine of the team’s 35 rebounds and Alison Fergen had five assists. Erica Herrold and McKenzie Weidenbach added nine and eight points respectively. The Trojans were 32 percent from the field and 50 percent from the line.

Besides one small run White River put together in the fourth quarter, the No. 1-ranked Corsica/Stickney boys’ basketball team cruised past the No. 2 Tigers Saturday at the first-ever Dakota Wesleyan Classic.
The Jaguars got 23 points from Kris Menning and held White River to 25 percent shooting in the first half en route to a 65-50 win at the Corn Palace.

Chevy Fischer led Chamberlain with 16 points. Mike Schwartz added 11 points and Isiah Harrison had 11 points and seven rebounds.
