CHAMBERLAIN — Winner led by six, 19-13, at halftime, but outscored Chamberlain 34-10 in the second half to pull way for a 53-23 win Saturday in Chamberlain. Sharee Galbraith led all scorers with 15 points for Winner and she also had a game-high 11 rebounds. The Warriors were 16-for-45 from the field, 17-for-25 from the line and had 28 rebounds. Frankie Willard had seven points and Jaymee Knippling had eight rebounds to lead the Cubs, who were 7-for-32 from the field, 8-for-13 from the line and had 29 rebounds.February 08, 2010

Eagles cruise to victory 
ABERDEEN — The Mitchell Christian boys’ basketball team improved to 8-1 on the season Saturday with a 63-32 win over Aberdeen Christian.
Matt Nielsen had a game-high 18 points and Jesse Tolma and Cody Thomsen each had 15 points. Tolsma also added 10 rebounds and 11 assists.
The Eagles were 26-of-44 from the field, 6-of-12 from the line and had 23 rebounds.
For Aberdeen Christian, Austin Wollman had 12 points.
The Eagles, whose only loss came from Corsica/Stickney play next Tuesday against Avon.

Area basketball: Gross leads Hanson as Beavers edge Mount Vernon 
HANSON — The Hanson High School boys’ basketball protected the ball, winning the turnover battle 7-17 in a 57-55 victory over Mount Vernon.
Andrew Gross scored 18 points and teammate Pierce Smith garnered 15 points and five assists. Trevor Doyle finished with 11 points and 11 of the team’s 27 rebounds. Hanson was 20-of-43 from the field and 15-of-26 from the line.
