DSU signs Baxa, Murtha, Weber PressPass

The Dakota State University volleyball team announced a list of eight volleyball recruits recently. Among the list was Burke native Mandy Baxa, Dimock native Emma Murtha and Parkston native Sam Weber. Baxa, a South Central graduate, is listed as a 6-foot middle and outside hitter. She was a four-year letterwinner and two-year team captain. She recorded 1,040 kills, 281 blocks, 140 aces and 1,107 digs during her prep career.

Tolsma, Mikkelsen star for South team in All-Star game PressPass

ABERDEEN — Former Mitchell Christian star Jesse Tolsma scored 15 points and Gregory’s Adam Mikkelsen had 10 for the South All-Star team when it fell to the North team 84-83 in the South Dakota boys’ basketball all-star game Wednesday night at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen. Tolsma also had three assists and a steal, while Mikkelsen shipped in nine rebounds and five blocks for the South squad.

Cattle drive set to kick off area rodeo PressPass

BURKE — A first-ever cattle drive will kick off the annual Burke Stampede Rodeo on Wednesday.
Bill Sutton will lead the drive with 50 cattle off his ranch along the Missouri River beginning about 10 a.m., said Renèè Sutton, Stampede Committee member. Five or six committee members will accompany Bill Sutton, and anyone who would like to take part is encouraged.

Pochop wins ‘B’ title, Parkston just misses repeat state title ABERDEEN — Gregory’s Gavin Pochop ended his high school career in prime fashion Tuesday afternoon at Moccasin Creek in Aberdeen. Pochop shot a 78 on the second day of competition to finish with a two-day total of 155 and earn the individual state championship at the Class B boys’ state golf tournament.
