Galbraith, Winner down Chamberlain

CHAMBERLAIN — Winner led by six, 19-13, at halftime, but outscored Chamberlain 34-10 in the second half to pull way for a 53-23 win Saturday in Chamberlain. Sharee Galbraith led all scorers with 15 points for Winner and she also had a game-high 11 rebounds. The Warriors were 16-for-45 from the field, 17-for-25 from the line and had 28 rebounds. Frankie Willard had seven points and Jaymee Knippling had eight rebounds to lead the Cubs, who were 7-for-32 from the field, 8-for-13 from the line and had 29 rebounds.

Springs district looks at 4-day school week

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — The Wessington Springs School District is the latest to consider switching to a fourday school week.
Although the school board and attendees at a recent community meeting on the topic have learned more about the program, Superintendent Lance Witte said he’s waiting to hear more input from staff and community.

Springs woman named Science Teacher of Year

WESSSINGTON SPRINGS — A Wessington Springs science teacher will receive the South Dakota Physical Science Teacher of the Year Award tonight from the state Science Association.
Mary Gohring, 64, who has taught for 28 years at Huron, Alpena and Wessington Springs, is a teacher who prides herself on inspiring and encouraging her students. She plans to retire at the end of 2010-11 after 17 years with the Wessington Springs School District.

Kopfmann records triple-double in win WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Caleb Kopfmann had quite a night for Wessington Springs. He finished with a triple-double 27 points, 10 steals and 14 rebounds in the Spartans’ 73-37 win over Iroquois Tuesday. Mitch Kraft added 19 points for Springs and Mark Gran had 10 points. The Spartans (6-9) outrebounded Iroquois 39-55. Iroquois had 33 turnovers to Springs’ 13. The Spartans won the JV game 41-26. Springs is host to Wolsey-Wessington Tuesday night. Area basketball: Last-second play lifts Ethan over Menno, 48-47 MENNO — Ethan’s Jordon Connor converted a three-point play with five seconds left in the game and Menno’s last-second shot went in and back out of the basket Monday, giving the Rustlers a 48-47 win in a high school boys’ basketball game in Menno. Menno led 39-30 heading into the final quarter, but Ethan outscored the Wolves 18-8 to pull ahead for the win.
