Chamberlain board pledges to work with parents following T-shirt incident PressPass

CHAMBERLAIN — A Chamberlain School Board official assured members of The Coalition for Cultural Equality Monday night that the board will work with them on a proposed resolution to create cultural standards in the district.
Chairwoman Susie Knippling of Gann Valley said the board might need to tweak some wording before the resolution could be approved on two more readings.

Attempt arises to nix funds for study on Missouri River PressPass

The head of the Missouri River Association of States and Tribes hopes a letter composed by Missouri lawmakers urging Congress to halt funding for a study about the Missouri River will not affect the project.
“We think there’s sufficient support, and some key people are backing the study,” said David Pope, the association’s executive director. “I think there’s a very strong chance that it will be funded this year, but you never know until Congress acts for sure.”

Tribe to KELO: Find new TV tower site PressPass

Tribe to KELO: Find new TV tower site RELIANCE — An American Indian tribe wants KELO-TV to find a different site for a broadcast tower that was toppled last month by a winter storm. The toppled tower was located on Medicine Butte, near Reliance in central South Dakota. KELO is currently erecting a temporary replacement tower and plans to eventually seek permission from the Federal Communications Commission to erect a permanent replacement tower this summer.

Indian gaming revenue grows in '08, despite economic downturn PressPass

American Indian gaming on a nationwide basis experienced its slowest annual growth in its reported history in 2008, but the industry still grew, and gaming revenue at casinos in South Dakota grew by 3.4 percent.
The numbers are from the new edition of the “Indian Gaming Industry Report” by Alan Meister, an economist with Nathan Associates Inc. The report was released today.
