Chester rolls past White Lake/Plankinton

PLANKINTON — Drew Kreutzfeldt threw a pair of first-half touchdowns to lead Chester Area to a 42-8 win over White Lake/Plankinton on Saturday in both team’s season-openers. Dylan Kreutzfeldt added three touchdown runs in the second half for Chester, which will face Mount Vernon this week.

Legion all-stars split doubleheader PressPass

CHAMBERLAIN — The North team took the first game, but the South fought back to win the second game in a split of an all-star Legion baseball doubleheader Monday in Chamberlain. The North All-Stars won the first game 8-7 and the South took the second game 11-0. The North’s Cody Heumiller, of Howard/Salem, had a double, an RBI and a run in the first game. His team trailed 5-3 after the first inning, but scored five runs in the sixth to take a late lead.

Howard/Salem falls to Groton LENNOX — The Howard/Salem baseball team had five hits, five errors and went down in order five times Sunday at the final day of the Class B state Legion baseball tournament. Groton defeated Howard/Salem 4-2 in an elimination game before moving on to fall to Alexandria in the championship game. Howard/Salem never got much going against Groton’s two pitchers. Howard/Salem’s offense scored one run in the first and one in the sixth, but struck out 10 times and went down in order in the third, fourth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings.

Alexandria wins 'B' Legion title LENNOX — It was evident to Jerry Smith that Tyson Gau would be a strikeout specialist when the young righty was six years old. Now Alexandria’s Legion baseball coach, Smith recalls Gau blowing fastballs past opponents four or five years older than he was in the backyard. Not much has changed over the years. Gau relieved Paul Paradies in the fourth inning of Sunday’s Class B state Legion championship game to strike out 12 Groton batters and lead his team to a 5-4 win.

LENNOX — The Class B state Legion baseball tournament will resume at approximately 4:30 p.m. today in Lennox. Wet field conditions and a rainy morning caused the tour-nament to be postponed. Tour-nament directors said the field will be in playing condition somewhere in between 4 and 5 p.m.
