Chester rolls past White Lake/Plankinton
PLANKINTON — Drew Kreutzfeldt threw a pair of first-half touchdowns to lead Chester Area to a 42-8 win over White Lake/Plankinton on Saturday in both team’s season-openers. Howard’s Ruml going for high achievement in USA Wrestling 
Howard wrestling coach Ken Ruml is going for the highest achievement in USA Wrestling.
Working toward the gold level achievement — which consists of 30-plus years of coaching and 12 tasks completed plus spending time at the Olympic wrestling headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colo. — Ruml already has the copper level, the broze level and the silver level achievements.

Legion all-stars split doubleheader
CHAMBERLAIN — The North team took the first game, but the South fought back to win the second game in a split of an all-star Legion baseball doubleheader Monday in Chamberlain.
The North All-Stars won the first game 8-7 and the South took the second game 11-0.
The North’s Cody Heumiller, of Howard/Salem, had a double, an RBI and a run in the first game. His team trailed 5-3 after the first inning, but scored five runs in the sixth to take a late lead.

Howard/Salem falls to Groton
LENNOX — The Howard/Salem baseball team had five hits, five errors and went down in order five times Sunday at the final day of the Class B state Legion baseball tournament.
Groton defeated Howard/Salem 4-2 in an elimination game before moving on to fall to Alexandria in the championship game.
Howard/Salem never got much going against Groton’s two pitchers.
Howard/Salem’s offense scored one run in the first and one in the sixth, but struck out 10 times and went down in order in the third, fourth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings.

Alexandria wins 'B' Legion title
LENNOX — It was evident to Jerry Smith that Tyson Gau would be a strikeout specialist when the young righty was six years old.
Now Alexandria’s Legion baseball coach, Smith recalls Gau blowing fastballs past opponents four or five years older than he was in the backyard.
Not much has changed over the years.
Gau relieved Paul Paradies in the fourth inning of Sunday’s Class B state Legion championship game to strike out 12 Groton batters and lead his team to a 5-4 win.

Howard/Salem downs Alexandria; both teams advance to final day of state tourney
LENNOX — The Howard/Salem baseball team defeated Alexandria 12-9 Saturday to stay alive in the Class B state Legion tourna-ment.
Howard/Salem scored five runs in the seventh inning to take a 9-5 lead.

Howard/Salem picks up 12-2 win over host Lennox to advance
LENNOX — The Howard/Salem Legion baseball team’s patience at the plate was nearly perfect Friday.
The team drew eight walks, racked up eight hits and got a home run to lead off the game in a 12-2 blowout win over Lennox in the third round of the Class B state Legion baseball tournament in Lennox.

LENNOX — Howard/Salem pitcher Cody Heumiller gave up one hit Thursday.
He threw all seven innings and struck out nine in a 7-0 win over Beresford in an elimination game at the Class B state Legion baseball tournament Thursday in Lennox.

Class B state Legion tournament to resume today
LENNOX — The Class B state Legion baseball tournament will resume at approximately 4:30 p.m. today in Lennox.
Wet field conditions and a rainy morning caused the tour-nament to be postponed. Tour-nament directors said the field will be in playing condition somewhere in between 4 and 5 p.m.

Garretson takes advantage of late errors, hits in 4-3 win over Howard/Salem
LENNOX — Through six innings of play, the Howard/Salem Legion baseball team looked poised and in control of its first-round match up with Garretson Wednesday in the Class B Legion state baseball tournament in Lennox.
Jordan Heumiller was cruising along on the mound, looking more and more comfortable as each inning passed after his offense had staked him a 3-1 lead.
