Hanson, Avon clash in Week 2 of 2010 football schedule 
The Avon football team will get its chance at redemption when it plays Hanson at the Beavers’ new stadium in the second week of the regular season this fall.
That is one of the highlighted area matchups on the high school football schedule for the year. The football schedules were recently posted on the South Dakota High School Association’s website.

Young’s 3-run homer leads Mitchell past Mount Vernon 
MOUNT VERNON — Rich Wiese pitched all nine innings to help the Mitchell Mad Dogs down the Mount Vernon Cardinals, 15-10, on Tuesday night in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game in Mount Vernon.
Wiese struck out six and allowed 10 runs in the game.

Padres to host tryout in Freeman 
The San Diego Padres major league baseball team will be holding a tryout camp next Wednesday, June 23, at the City Park in Freeman.
The tryout, which will begin at 9 a.m. and run through the afternoon depending on the number of participants, will be under the direction of Padres scout Hank Krause.
