Rebels beat Woonsocket in 9B game PressPass

WOONSOCKET — The Sanborn Central boys’ basketball team defeated Woonsocket 64-56 in a District 9B game Saturday. Tark Kingsbury led the way for the Rebels. Chase Weeden and Nick Miller each added 12 and Kurt Stekl had 10. Miller also had eight rebounds. The Rebels were 19-of-53 from the field and knocked down 21-of-30 from the field.

Kopfmann records triple-double in win WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Caleb Kopfmann had quite a night for Wessington Springs. He finished with a triple-double 27 points, 10 steals and 14 rebounds in the Spartans’ 73-37 win over Iroquois Tuesday. Mitch Kraft added 19 points for Springs and Mark Gran had 10 points. The Spartans (6-9) outrebounded Iroquois 39-55. Iroquois had 33 turnovers to Springs’ 13. The Spartans won the JV game 41-26. Springs is host to Wolsey-Wessington Tuesday night. McCook Central/Montrose rolls past Parkston PARKSTON — The McCook Central/Montrose boys’ basketball team led 36-19 after the first half and never looked back in a 67-33 rout of Parkston Monday night. Mark Holz led the Fighting Cougars with 12 points. Jay Holz and Shane Gottlob each had 10. Gottlob also had six rebounds and six assists. McCook Central/Montrose was 27-of-68 from the field and 12-of-15 from the line.

Eagles cruise to victory PressPass

ABERDEEN — The Mitchell Christian boys’ basketball team improved to 8-1 on the season Saturday with a 63-32 win over Aberdeen Christian. Matt Nielsen had a game-high 18 points and Jesse Tolma and Cody Thomsen each had 15 points. Tolsma also added 10 rebounds and 11 assists. The Eagles were 26-of-44 from the field, 6-of-12 from the line and had 23 rebounds. For Aberdeen Christian, Austin Wollman had 12 points. The Eagles, whose only loss came from Corsica/Stickney play next Tuesday against Avon.

Woonsocket/Wessington Springs had four players earn all-281 Conference honors, and Sanborn Central had three. Senior Collin Baumgart and juniors Ty Kenobbie, Kole Kopfmann and Erick Warkenthien all made the first team for Woonsocket/Wessington Springs. Tark Kingsbury, Jordan Pearson and Lukas VanLaecken were selected for Sanborn Central.

Scotland rallies against Avon AVON — Scotland rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Avon 3-2 Tuesday in a high school volleyball match in Avon. Avon took a 2-0 lead with a 28-26 win in the first set and a dominant 25-9 win in the second. But Scotland regrouped, securing a hard-fought 29-27 win in the third game to stay alive. The Highlanders then won 25-21 and 15-9 in the next two sets to complete the comeback.

Last-second TD pushes Menno over Centerville CENTERVILLE — Kory Henrichs caught a 13-yard pass from Macon Oplinger as time expired to lift the Menno High School football team to a 26-20 win over Centerville Friday in Centerville. The win marked the second time in two weeks that Menno scored at the last second to win.
