Chester rolls past White Lake/Plankinton
PLANKINTON — Drew Kreutzfeldt threw a pair of first-half touchdowns to lead Chester Area to a 42-8 win over White Lake/Plankinton on Saturday in both team’s season-openers. Sanborn turns to opt-out for road work
FORESTBURG — Sanborn County commissioners told a small crowd Thursday night that road repairs are badly needed in the county.Commissioner Jeff Ebersdorfer, of rural Fedora, said the county has 325 miles of gravel and asphalt roads to maintain, excluding township roads. He acknowledged that some roads don’t need repairs, but road closures are becoming a public safety issue.

Public meeting to be held on Sanborn County opt-out 
FORESTBURG — Sanborn County commissioners will conduct the last of two public meetings on the proposed $350,000 annual opt-out of the state property tax freeze at 7 p.m. today at the 4-H building in Forestburg.

Burial will be in the Buttler Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

FORESTBURG — Marion Judy, Forestburg, will celebrate her 90th birthday at an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, at the 4-H Building, Forestburg. Her birthday is March 21. She requests no gifts.

Rebels beat Woonsocket in 9B game
WOONSOCKET — The Sanborn Central boys’ basketball team defeated Woonsocket 64-56 in a District 9B game Saturday.
Tark Kingsbury led the way for the Rebels. Chase Weeden and Nick Miller each added 12 and Kurt Stekl had 10. Miller also had eight rebounds.
The Rebels were 19-of-53 from the field and knocked down 21-of-30 from the field.

Kopfmann records triple-double in win
WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Caleb Kopfmann had quite a night for Wessington Springs.
He finished with a triple-double 27 points, 10 steals and 14 rebounds in the Spartans’ 73-37 win over Iroquois Tuesday.
Mitch Kraft added 19 points for Springs and Mark Gran had 10 points. The Spartans (6-9) outrebounded Iroquois 39-55. Iroquois had 33 turnovers to Springs’ 13.
The Spartans won the JV game 41-26. Springs is host to Wolsey-Wessington Tuesday night.

McCook Central/Montrose rolls past Parkston
PARKSTON — The McCook Central/Montrose boys’ basketball team led 36-19 after the first half and never looked back in a 67-33 rout of Parkston Monday night.
Mark Holz led the Fighting Cougars with 12 points. Jay Holz and Shane Gottlob each had 10.
Gottlob also had six rebounds and six assists.
McCook Central/Montrose was 27-of-68 from the field and 12-of-15 from the line.

Eagles cruise to victory
ABERDEEN — The Mitchell Christian boys’ basketball team improved to 8-1 on the season Saturday with a 63-32 win over Aberdeen Christian.
Matt Nielsen had a game-high 18 points and Jesse Tolma and Cody Thomsen each had 15 points. Tolsma also added 10 rebounds and 11 assists.
The Eagles were 26-of-44 from the field, 6-of-12 from the line and had 23 rebounds.
For Aberdeen Christian, Austin Wollman had 12 points.
The Eagles, whose only loss came from Corsica/Stickney play next Tuesday against Avon.

The Mitchell Christian boys’ basketball team had its offense rolling Monday night. But it was its defense that was even more impressive.
The Eagles held Sanborn Central to five second-half points en route to a 77-19 win at the Mitchell Christian School gymnasium.

Big third-quarter run lifts Rebels past MCHS
Sanborn Central trailed by one at halftime, but used a trapping defense to force Mitchell into numerous third-quarter turnovers and pull away for a 47-31 win over Mitchell Christian Monday in a high school girls’ basketball game in Mitchell.

Woonsocket/Wessington Springs lands four on all-281 team
Woonsocket/Wessington Springs had four players earn all-281 Conference honors, and Sanborn Central had three.
Senior Collin Baumgart and juniors Ty Kenobbie, Kole Kopfmann and Erick Warkenthien all made the first team for Woonsocket/Wessington Springs. Tark Kingsbury, Jordan Pearson and Lukas VanLaecken were selected for Sanborn Central.
