Wagner wins four at Parkston tournament

PARKSTON — The Wagner volleyball team won four games at the Parkston Invitational volleyball tournament over the weekend. Wagner defeated McCook Central/Montrose, Northwestern, Parkston and Tripp-Delmont/Armour in the five-team tournament. In the Red Raiders’ first game, they defeated McCook Central/Montrose 25-16 and 25-18. Devon Brecke had five kills, two blocks and four digs, while Jessa Doom had four digs and 14 assists.

Former area auditor late in filing reports PressPass

ARMOUR — The former Douglas County auditor was late in filing the county’s annual financial report with the state Department of Legislative Audit for three consecutive years.
A recent audit done by the department noted the violation.
State Auditor General Martin Guindon called the situation unusual.

After oil began to leak from the Deepwater Horizon well into the Gulf of Mexico, protesters appeared at British Petroleum gas stations from Los Angeles to Sioux Falls and beyond. But, ever since the leak began, Paul Wilson, who co-owns a BP station with his wife, Kathy Renshaw, in Armour, hasn’t caught an earful of anger from any of his customers.

Mount Vernon VFW beats Armour in first round of I-90 tourney PressPass

PARKSTON — The Mount Vernon 15- and-16-year-old VFW baseball team beat Armour, 15-5, in five innings in the first round of the I-90 league’s midseason tournament Wednesday night. Cam Deinert earned the win for Mount Vernon after throwing three innings and striking out five. He allowed one earned run on three hits.

Friday night rollover kills one near Armour PressPass

ARMOUR — A Canadian man died Friday night in a one-vehicle rollover crash near Armour.
Sat Pal Singh Balagan, 50, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, was driving a 2009 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer northbound on Highway 18 at approximately 9:47 p.m. 10 miles south of Armour when the right wheels dropped off the edge of the pavement.
