Tigers sign Hanson standout PressPass

The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team added its second member of the 2010-11 recruiting class Wednesday, and the Tigers’ newest recruit is someone who is very familiar with the program. Amanda Hart, a Hanson High School standout, signed with DWU this week. She is the sister of DWU football player Jon Hart and the daughter of athletic director Curt Hart.

Area basketball: Parkston edges Freeman, 56-52 FREEMAN — Parkston held off Freeman 17-13 in the final quarter to net a 56-52 win in a high school girls’ basketball game Friday in Freeman. Marie Malloy led Parkston with 19 points and five steals. Emma Murtha grabbed nine of the team’s 35 rebounds and Alison Fergen had five assists. Erica Herrold and McKenzie Weidenbach added nine and eight points respectively. The Trojans were 32 percent from the field and 50 percent from the line.

Hanson County deputy’s firing remains in dispute PressPass

ALEXANDRIA — His former deputy may still work for Hanson County, said Sheriff Mark Kessler, but Randy Bartlett is not working in his office.
Kessler fired Bartlett Jan. 25 for what the sheriff said is personal and professional disloyalty.
“I will not be lied to and undermined by my staff. It just isn’t going to happen,” Kessler said.

WHITE LAKE — Kimball was down by one heading into the final quarter, but outscored White Lake 14-10 to pull away for a 44-41 win Tuesday in girls’ high school basketball action in White Lake. Jill Jandreau scored 12 points to lead Kimball and Katie Talbott had 12 rebounds. The Kiotes were 9-for-14 from the line.
