He was born Aug. 28, 1950.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mitchell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mitchell. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
Gregory Paul Dice was born to Roland and Dorothy (Hoke) Dice in Mitchell. For the first four years of his life he lived in Corsica with his parents and his older brother, Tom. The family moved to Mitchell in April 1955. He attended school in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1968.
He attended the University of South Dakota and received a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1972 and a master’s degree in business administration in 1989.
While at USD he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon men’s fraternity and served as the chapter’s vice president. He was a member of ROTC while at USD and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
On Sept. 5, 1971, he married Gayle (Green) Dice, his high school sweetheart, in Mitchell. Following officer training at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind., he returned to Mitchell to join Dice Insurance Agency with his brother, Tom. In 1976, he joined Commercial Bank and served in various roles, including president. He was named branch manager of Bankwest in 2001. He retired from Bankwest in April 2008 following a diagnosis of Lewy body dementia.
Greg was active in his community. He was president of numerous organizations, including the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Hockey Association, YMCA, Avera Queen of Peace Foundation, Holy Family Parish Council and YMCA Capital Campaign. He was state treasurer for Duck’s Unlimited and active in Rotary International. He was active in Boy Scouts and mentored his two sons, who became Eagle Scouts.
He is survived by his wife, Gayle; daughter, Sarah VandenBosch (Mark) of Minneapolis; son, Matthew (Carissa) of Sioux Falls; son, Jeffrey (Tracy) of Sioux Falls; granddaughters, Alexa and Alivia of Sioux Falls; brother, Tom (Charlys) Dice of Mitchell; brother-in-law, Dennis (Mary Lu) Green of Sioux Falls; sister-in-law, Marcia Sherrill of Denver; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nephews and a great-niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Francis Green.
A memorial fund has been established.
