Dale Brown, 84, Mitchell, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Wakonda Heritage Manor, Wakonda.

Dale Brown, 84, Mitchell, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Wakonda Heritage Manor, Wakonda.

He was born on Dec. 26, 1928.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Mitchell. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service.

A memorial fund has been established.

Dale LaVere Brown was born at De Smet to Earl and Iso (Muser) Brown.

He grew up and attended school at Erwin, and graduated from Erwin High School in 1946.

He was in the U.S. Army for four years and served in Alaska during the Korean War.

He returned to South Dakota and graduated from Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls.

On Nov. 17, 1956, he married Mona L. Overbaugh at Luverne, Minn.

They lived in Pierre, where he was employed by the South Dakota Department of Transportation.

They moved to Mitchell in 1958, where he worked for Jerry Ross Accounting, then General Motor Equipment.

Dale worked at Bauer Dental Studio as bookkeeper and office manager for most of his career, retiring in 2004.

Over all these years, Dale also did independent bookkeeping and tax preparation for D&L Implement and many other individuals and businesses.

He was a member of Resurgam Lodge No. 31, Eastern Star Starlight Chapter No. 41, the El Riad Corn Palace Shrine Club and was a lifetime member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his life partner of 15 years, Carole Wirt, Mitchell; three children: Laurie Brown, Vermillion; Julie Jones, Sturgis; and Douglas Brown and wife Robbie, Litchfield, Minn.; five grandchildren: Ian Steckelberg, Rapid City; Tess Jones, Sturgis; Ryan, Bryce and Corey Pritchett, Litchfield; and one brother, Joseph Brown, Dakota, Minn.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mona, in 1996; his son, Robert Craig Brown, in 1994; two sisters: Eva McKibben and Joyce Long; and two brothers, Arleigh “Pat” Brown and Frank Brown.
